Garden Classes & Workshops

Grow your gardening knowledge with Dennis’ 7 Dees! Our three garden centers in Lake Oswego, Cedar Hills, and Seaside, OR offer free seminars and hands-on workshops every week throughout the year to help you succeed in your garden. Whether you’re first trying out your green thumb or are a seasoned gardener, our classes and events will give you lots of great ideas and unique ways to express your creativity.

At Dennis’ 7 Dees, we have a passion for plants, and we want to share it with our friendly neighbors and communities. From learning how to care for roses to growing your own edible garden and everything in between, you’re sure to find something fun and educational for you and your family.

Intro to Modern Calligraphy

Join Rachel Jacobson at Bridgeport Village to learn all the basics of pointed pen calligraphy. Enjoy a mimosa, meet new friends (or join with a friend), and learn the art of modern calligraphy! This session will introduce calligraphy tools and materials, teach students how to hold the pen and control ink flow, write uppercase and lowercase letters, and connect letters to compose words. There will be individual instruction with time for questions, input, and practice. Each participant will receive their own take home starter kit with a curated selection of Rachel's favorite calligraphy tools. This is a perfect class for beginners to learn in a relaxed and fun environment.

Not Tonight Deer

Sharing your garden with deer and other wildlife can be a thrilling experience, adding to the enjoyment we get from our outdoor spaces. Deer and elk, however, view our landscapes as a potential feast and can cause significant damage to our plants. Come learn about deer-resistant landscape plants and some tips and techniques to protect your garden and landscape from these nighttime raiders. Free class; pre-registration required.

Yoga & Kokedama Class

Do you enjoy plants and yoga? Have you wanted to enjoy both things together? Then this is the PERFECT event for you! With a beautiful green backdrop, come move your body in all directions, learn how to make a kokedama, and connect with other badass planty yoga friends. This is an event to celebrate thriving and is for all levels and genders. Ticket includes 45 minutes of yoga taught by Bonnie Weeks and a 45 minute Kokedama class instructed by a plant professional from Dennis’ 7 Dees. Please bring your own yoga mat. Kokedama is a recently re-popularized, ancient botanic art form which uses moss to encase a plant’s roots wrapped with twine instead of using a pot. The hands-on class will take you through the steps to create one ball using the plant of your choice and also teach you how to care for it at home. $40 class fee. Meet Instructor Nicole Forbes

Nicole has lived & gardened in Portland for more than 20 years and started working for Dennis Seven Dees in the late 1990s. She has experience in nearly every retail garden center job position that exists but has found her niche in teaching gardening classes and hosting events like our Annual Tomato Tasting. Nicole's love of plants and people is evident in her fun and energetic teaching style. She also writes many of our blog articles and helps with employee training at the garden centers.
