The homeowner recently purchased the home and together we created a landscape that would transform the current spaces into something that was focused on utilizing the large amount of landscape for his wife and three young girls enjoyment. When discussing designs and plant elements they wanted bold colors and patterns to match their interior furnishings. Another element to focus on was screening the space where their fire pit currently is to block the neighbors building and soften the newly installed sport court from their bedroom windows.
We used masses of different colored grasses to create the “POPS” of color the wife wanted and used different flowers, foliage, colors, and textures to keep each area exciting and unique. By installing sand filled drainage at a 3’ spacing throughout all lawn areas we were able to eliminate the excessively wet lawns allowing their children to use them for games and playing most of the year whereas before it was at most 1-2 without turning off the irrigation and browning the lawns out. We brush cut the access road and installed a culvert in the lowest area to prevent washout or erosion and then top dressed the road with gravel to allow heavy trucks and equipment a safe way to enter the back of the property.
With the numerous contractors and large amount of work needing to be completed in a short amount of time we decided to do phases instead of an overall design to allow us to quickly change and adapt the plans to make sure we were always focused instead of doing everything at once. This helped the homeowners greatly as they were also able to focus on an area at a time and keep things manageable in their minds. We also had daily onsite meetings with the other contractors to make sure everyone knew where we were at and that no one was causing delays.
