We have a passion for plants and we want to share it with you! Our garden centers in Lake Oswego, Cedar Hills, Bridgeport Village, and Seaside offer free classes and hands-on workshops throughout the year to help you succeed in your garden. Whether you’re still developing your green thumb or you’re a seasoned gardener, our events will give you lots of great ideas and unique ways to express your creativity. From learning how to care for roses to growing your own edible garden and everything in between, you’re sure to find something fun and educational. Growing the Best Tomatoes

If you love garden-fresh tomatoes, you may be willing to try almost anything for earlier ripening, more flavor, or longer lasting crops. Having hosted an annual tomato tasting event for more than a decade, Nicole is quick to share her passion for all things tomato. She will talk about some of the top-voted varieties from years past, recommend several fantastic heirlooms, and suggest hybrids developed right here at home. Growing tips and secrets used by successful local tomato growers will also be revealed. Whether you want to grow grafted or not, hybrid or heirloom, from seed or with started plants, you will want to watch this class.
The World of Monsteras

Join us for a class dedicated to the monstrous and mysterious genus that are Monsteras! This fast growing, naturally trailing plant is a statement for any collection and contains varieties that are widely sought after for their rare and unusual qualities; more commonly seen in stores are Monstera deliciosa and Monstera adansonii, typically drawing attention to their iconic swiss cheese-like leaf pattern. We’ll delve into topics ranging from origin to staking methods!
Meet Instructor Nicole Forbes
Nicole has lived and gardened in Portland for more than 20 years and started working for Dennis’ 7 Dees in the late 1990s. She has experience in nearly every retail garden center job position that exists, but she has found her niche in teaching gardening classes and hosting events like our annual Tomato Tasting Festival. Nicole’s love of plants and people is evident in her fun and energetic teaching style. She also writes many of our blog articles and helps with employee training at the garden centers.
