Stand & Water

Be sure that the stand you use will support the tree and hold an adequate amount of water—our staff will be glad to help you choose the best stand. For most trees up to 11 feet tall, we recommend the Cinco tree stand, and we install it for no charge each year. Always have a fresh cut on a tree with about 1 inch trimmed off before placing in a stand. Add water immediately and check the water level often. Your tree may drink quite a bit of water at first. Add Christmas tree preservative to the water; this will help your tree take up water and maintain freshness (similar to what flower food does for a freshly cut bouquet).

Tree Preservative

Tree preservative is a non-toxic, anti-transpirant spray which keeps the needles from drying out in warm indoor conditions. It can be sprayed onto your tree by our staff before it gets to your house or you can apply it at home (best done outside or in a shed/garage). We strongly recommend using it to extend the green life of Christmas trees, wreaths, and living trees, and as a way to prevent needle-drop.

Flocked Trees

Dreaming of a white Christmas? If so, a flocked tree is for you! Freshly cut, green trees are sprayed with flock for that ‘just snowed’ effect. Flock is a fluffed cellulose wood product with a fire retardant added. It is non-toxic and non-allergenic. A flocked tree is fire-resistant and does not need to be in water, although it does come in a stand. If you plan to use lights on your flocked tree, check the color of your cords—many lights have green cords which will stand out against the white tree!

Safety

Lights can really beautify your tree, but remember to check the specific details of the lights you are using and avoid plugging too many strands together, which can overload the fuse and cause an outage. Always unplug lights if the tree is left unattended or before going to bed at night. Our Christmas staff can pre-light your tree before you get it home so it is ready to decorate; just ask one of our friendly ‘elves’ for pricing details and availability.

Reminder: Using candles or any other decorations with a live flame around your tree is a fire hazard.

Delivery/Pick-Up

Can’t bear the thought of vacuuming up all those needles from the back of your car or trunk? Don’t want to put a tree on the roof of your car? Or maybe you are physically not able to bring a tree in and out of the house? All of these are great reasons to use our delivery service—we bring your tree inside and place it where it will be displayed for the holidays, making sure it is straight in the stand and even turning it to show its best side. Once the holidays are over, we can come back and pick it up for you on a pre-scheduled date. If you would like to take advantage of this service, be sure to reserve your delivery date as soon as possible!

Recycling

Whether you have us pick it up or not, what are you going to do with that tree post-holidays? Dennis’ 7 Dees offers recycling of green or flocked trees, wreaths, and garland for $7 per item at each of our garden centers. If you tend to get the post-holiday blues when the decorations all come down, shop for a new indoor plant while you're there to help bring in the new year and brighten up the remaining winter days at home!
