Join us for a fun, educational program focusing on kids gardening and basic plant care. Each month we will focus on a different topic related to plants and gardening, every child who participates will take something home after each meeting for further learning opportunities. There will be a $5 charge per child per meeting to cover cost of materials.
Discover How Plants Work: Dissect a Flower
Learn what a plant has in common with a solar panel, how plants gather & store energy, and different ways that plants attract pollinators & reproduce. We will dissect a flower to see some of its inner parts and learn their functions.
Plant Cover Crops for Better Soil; Make a Scarecrow for display at our Nursery
For many years farmers have planted cover crops in their fields this time of year as a way to easily improve the soil. We will talk about what cover crops are; discuss some of the different choices available for planting, and what to do with them at the end of the season. Each child will take home 1/4 pound of cover crop seeds to plant and grow at home. At this meeting we will also share stories of what has grown in our gardens this year while we make a scarecrow for fall display at the garden center.
