We recognize our industry as the original green industry and at Dennis’ 7 Dees that sets the bar extremely high for protecting the environment. We feel that it is the responsibility of the entire community to keep our city and waterways clean and thriving. We strive to keep up to date on new and evolving technology and techniques to offer the best and most responsible choice of services and products.
As we each work to be better stewards of the land we live on, Dennis’ 7 Dees is committed to continual improvements to reduce and recycle, while still providing our superior level of quality.
Natural and Organic Fertilizers
Our landscape and maintenance crews use a premium, all season fertilizer formula of natural and organic ingredients that is OMRI Listed—or approved—products that may be used on operations that are certified organic under the USDA National Organic Program.
Our garden centers favor organic fertilizers by stocking and promoting them at our four locations.
Reduced Reliance on Chemicals
At Dennis’ 7 Dees Landscaping, we maintain landscapes with the goal of reducing a need for chemicals. This includes integrated pest management, which takes advantage of all appropriate pest management options, including hand weeding and weed control through mulching.
Recycling of Organic Waste
Grass clippings and other landscape debris traditionally have been bagged and hauled to landfills or yard waste processing centers. For more than 20 years, we have been recycling all organic yard debris and are committed to continual improvements to reduce and recycle.
Energy Efficient Equipment
Choosing products that minimize our impact on the environment is extremely important to us. Our equipment is fuel-efficient, uses proven low-emission engines with greater fuel efficiency and run cleaner than EPA standards for exhaust emissions. We’ve worked with STIHL to reduce noise pollution on blowers as well.
We are beginning to connect our equipment to propane, which provides many benefits including a sourced from the USA, more efficient, exceptionally safe fuel that produces significantly lower amounts of some harmful emissions and increases energy security.
Mulching grass clippings back into the soil profile is an important aspect of environmental stewardship that requires special mulching decks and blades. Dennis’ 7 Dees has been partnering with John Deere engineers to design improvements for maximum mulching in our challenging NW climate. Mulching benefits include a healthier, more sustainable lawn, lower water requirements and less fertilizer.
Working with all major manufacturers, we provide the latest in products and technologies that use water efficiently, including water saving nozzles and Smart Controller technology by Rain Bird. Our commitment extends to the education and training of our crews.
We are using a new grass seed blend requiring 75% less water than normal turf. Its roots grow deeper, gathering water from a larger range, reducing its need for water.
Reducing Run-off and Erosion Control
We’ve been controlling run-off by installing water gardens, bio-swales, wetlands and eco roofs for over 15 years. This helps prevent water from overwhelming municipal utilities and it also protects our waterways.
All our locations recycle and re-use paper, plastic, metal, batteries, oil and other recyclables. All our containers are reused reducing the need to purchase more and preventing them from being sent to the landfill.
